The History of KTC
1950
Established at 38 Heijo-cho Minami-ku, Kyoto.
KTC tools were adopted as on-board tools for Toyota automobiles.
1951
Moved to 36 Karasuma-cho, Higashi-kujo, Minami-ku, Kyoto.
Started the production and sale of tools for general marketing.
1952
Moved to 15 Nishinokyo Nakaai-cho, Nakakyou-ku, Kyoto.
Established a completely integrated system of production.
1953
KTC tools were approved as superior class A automotive parts by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan.
1956
KTC became the designated brand for the Defense Agency in Japan.
1957
Purchased a site at 40 Shimotoba Osada-cho, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto.
1958
KTC became the designated brand for Japan National Railways.
1960
The Fushimi Plant partly came into operation.
Started the first five-year rationalization plan.
Established Kyoto Kiko Co., Ltd. at Oyamazaki-cho, Kyoto.
1961
Concluded an export contract with the Fuller Tools of the USA.
1964
The entire company moved to 40 Shimo-toba Osada-cho, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto.
Designated as a rationalization model factory for small and medium-sized enterprises (for seven terms continuously until 1977).
1965
Completed the first five-year rationalization plan.
1966
Started the second five-year rationalization plan.
1967
Purchased a site at Kumiyama-cho, Kuse-gun, Kyoto.
1968
The Kumiyama Plant partly came into operation.
1969
Received the Safety Progress Award from the Labor Minister in Japan.
1970
Completed the second five-year rationalization plan.
Established Hokuriku KTC Tool Co., Ltd. at Hakui-shi, Ishikawa.
1972
Approved as qualified class A supplier by the Defense Agency in Japan.
Received the Superior Safety Award from the Labor Minister in Japan
1973
Established KTC Sales Co., Ltd.
1976
Received the Safety Contribution Award from the Prime Minister of Japan.
Started a new 5-year rationalization plan.
1979
All the production departments moved to the Kumiyama Plant.

1980
Listed in the Second Section of the Osaka Securities Exchange and the Kyoto Securities Exchange.
1981
Computerized the company's production management system.
1983
Introduced the KTC production system.
1984
KTC Sales Co., Ltd. was absorbed into KTC.
Marketed Mirror Tools.
Established Asahi Plaza at Fushimi-ku, Kyoto-shi.
1987
Advanced to the precision molded tool business.
Moved and upgraded the Tokyo Office to the Tokyo Branch.
Concluded a technical guidance agreement with MTM of Indonesia.
1988
Completed the construction of a new precision molded tool plant.
Moved the headquarters to Kumiyama-cho.
1989
Hokuriku KTC Tool Co., Ltd. started participation in the precision casting industry.
1992
Introduced total productive maintenance (TPM) activities.
1994
Completed the construction of the second machinery plant
Mirror Nepros Tools acquired official approval from the Suzuka International Racing Course.
Established KTC Service Co., Ltd.
1995
Marketed Mirror Nepros Tools.
Opened Asahi Plaza Nagaokakyo Store at Nagaokakyo-shi, Kyoto.
Moved and upgraded the Shikoku Satellite Office to the Shikoku District Office.
Received TPM Class 1 Excellence Award. *1
Established Fuqing Kyoto Tool Co., Ltd., a joint corporation, in Fujian, China.
1998
Established KTC Career Service Co., Ltd.

Asahi Plaza at Nagaokakyo was absorbed into Asahi Plaza at Shimotoba.
A customer consultation room was opened.

Put 21st Century Tools on sale.
Completed the construction of the KTC “MONOZUKURI” Museum.
2003
Opened the KTC “MONOZUKURI” Museum to the public.
Received the 16th Nikkei New Office Award. *4
Received the Nikkei New Office Promotion Award (Economy, Trade and Industry Minister's Award).
2004
Established Shanghai Kyoto Tool Co., Ltd., a joint corporation, in Shanghai, China.
2005
Marketed the Digital Ratchet, an advanced digital torque ratchet wrench.
Received the PM Class 1 Excellence Award (1995).

The Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) grants the TPM Excellence Award to enterprises that have promoted the modernization of plant maintenance, development of plant maintenance technologies, implementation of the 5S activities (sorting, set-in-order, sweeping, standardizing, and sustaining), streamlining of offices, and improvements to business structures, and attained great results in productivity, quality, and energy-saving performance. KTC was the first work tool manufacturer to receive the TPM Excellence Award.
}*2 ISO 9001 Certification
KTC received ISO 9001 certification on November 6, 1998 from the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA). ISO 9001 is the international standard certification for quality management systems.
The certification covers the design, development, and production of work tools at KTC's Kumiyama Plant and Fushimi Plant and the production of work tools at KTC's subsidiary Hokuriku KTC Tool Co., Ltd.
With the acquisition of the certification, KTC will work to achieve the world's highest quality in response to global user needs. KTC's challenge is based on the company's quality policy of practicing customer satisfaction (CS) management supported by the integration of production, sales, and engineering to realize the world's highest quality and thus satisfy, please, and impress customers.
The High-tech Business Department, which manufactures molds for plastic parts and then molds and assembles the plastic parts, acquired ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 certification on July 7, 2000, which covers an expanded range of applicable products and affiliated business places. The Fushimi Plant, however, was excluded from the applicable business locals because it was merged with the Kumiyama Plant in February 2000.

58th-term Quality Policy
· Reconstructing and simplifying the quality management system to eliminate operational inefficiency and waste, and make each employee informed and aware of the system.
*3 ISO 14001 Certification
KTC received ISO 14001 certification on December 28, 1999 from the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA). ISO 14001 is the international standard certification for quality management systems.
The sites covered by the certification are KTC's Kumiyama business centers (the head office and Kumiyama Plant) and Fushimi Plant.
In future, KTC will consider quality and environment as top-priority subjects for management and expand its activities further to realize the world's highest quality and becoming a global environment-friendly enterprise.

The Fushimi Plant was excluded from the applicable business locals because it was merged with the Kumiyama Plant in February 2000.

Recipients of the Nikkei New Office Award are selected on the basis of their office concepts, concrete measures, and results in order to maintain comfortable, functional offices.
KTC's received the Economy, Trade and Industry Minister's Award (the Nikkei New Office Promotion Award) as the result of the realization of the company's managerial creed and strategy at the KTC "MONOZUKURI" Museum.
